“No Fear”

13 Feb 2008 In: The Pastor's Heart

“But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” <Is 43:1-2>

Several years ago there was a logo that appeared, it seemed, everywhere. It was “No Fear.” To me it seemed to make the statement, “I am in control, I am stronger, I will not fear you.” In our text today God says, “Fear not.” This command is based upon who God is and not what man thinks he (man) is.

God, Your Source of Strength, continued…

11 Feb 2008 In: The Pastor's Heart

”Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.” <Is 40:28-29>

Second answer, God gives you strength when you are weary. Note v. 29a. Read the rest of this post »

History of the Bible Part 2: History of the New Testament

How were the books of the New Testament chosen, and what criteria were used to exclude any others? The earliest Christians worshipped alongside Jews in synagogues but believed Jesus fulfilled the messianic prophesies of the Old Testament. It wasn’t until the last half of the 1st century A.D. that Christians began worshipping separately, but they continued to view the Old Testament as authoritative because Jesus regularly affirmed it.

Sunday, Feb. 10

10 Feb 2008 In: Sunday in Review

Today started cold, icy and snowy. It did not look like we would have many out.  So our attendance was a little lower that normal.  But, we did have several visiting families. PTL.

The baptism service was a great blessing. There were several unsaved family members attending because of it.

Overall, the spirit of worship and fellowship was refreshing. For me, it was an encouragement to be in God’s house today.

Saved from Your Sins, by C. H. Spurgeon

9 Feb 2008 In: Somewhat Daily Missive

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Mt 1:21)

Many persons, if they are asked what they understand by salvation, will reply, “Being saved from hell and taken to heaven.” This is one result of salvation, but it is not one tithe of what is contained in that boon. It is true our Lord Jesus Christ does redeem all his people from the wrath to come; he saves them from the fearful condemnation which their sins had brought upon them; but his triumph is far more complete than this. He saves his people “from their sins.” Oh! sweet deliverance from our worst foes. Where Christ works a saving work, he casts Satan from his throne, and will not let him be master any longer
