“Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon, 5 ‘ Build houses and live in them; and plant gardens and eat their produce. 6 Take wives and become the fathers of sons and daughters, and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; and multiply there and do not decrease. 7 Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf; for in its welfare you will have welfare.” Jeremiah 29:4-7
You’ve heard the song, “This World Is Not My Home”, but in a real sense, it is. For now. We live in a world that’s been corrupted through sin and Satan and because of that, we suffer pain and hardships, sickness and losses, broken relationships and strife. And yet life goes on. What are we as Christians supposed to do about it? Cry, “Lord take me home!”, complain about the unfairness of life, or just dig in our heels with steely resolve and say “whatever will be will be”? No, I don’t think so! Life goes on, at least for a little while here on earth, and God expects us to live life with zest. Build our homes, plant gardens and raise families to the glory of God who is after all, the Giver of Life! He who has richly given us ALL things to enjoy delights in His children who delight in Him. Thank Him and praise Him for all that He has given you and while you’re at it, don’t forget to pray for this land you live in that you might prosper and have a testimony of joy and contentment. Thank you God, that while this world is not my home, YOU are my eternal dwelling place and my heart is at home!
