Psalm 90:12 “So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.”
Scripture tells me man is approximated seventy years and if our health is good, maybe eighty. Just how many days is that? According to my calculator, that is a mere 25,550 days for seventy years or 29,200 days for eighty years! Somehow I thought that number would be much higher! Now if I subtract the days from life I’ve already lived I see how many days are left, provided I even live out that many years. How sobering a thought that is and makes me much more serious about making every day count. Asking God to teach us to number our days is in essence asking Him to help us make the most of this life He has given us. This shouldn’t discourage us however but give us the right motivation for living life to the fullest as God intended us to do!
I like how the Psalmist finished up his thoughts in this chapter:
14 “Oh, satisfy us early with Your mercy, That we may rejoice and be glad all our days! 15 Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us, The years in which we have seen evil. 16 Let Your work appear to Your servants, And Your glory to their children. 17 And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands.
