I Will Lift My Eyes to God, Part 4

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. (Psalm 121:3–4)

In the midst of our trials and suffering, we can find and acknowledge that God is our wonderful protector.

Notice the words keepeth vv. 3-4; keeper v.5; shall preserve vv.7- 8. They are all the same Hebrew word. All these usages emphasize God’s guardianship over His own. Not only is God a guardian, He is our guardian, our protector, our keeper, and our preserver.

Now, as our guardian, let us look at some of God’s characteristics and actions:

God is always sure and alert. God will always be our sure foundation. He will not allow our feet to be moved or to slip. God is not like the slippery rocks in the Pohopoco Creek We can stand upon him as our help, and we will not fall off. The word “slip” also means to totter. Those of us who are getting older seem to totter more and more—I notice that I am not as surefooted as I once was. But as we get older and weaker, God is still our guardian…

God is never caught sleeping on the job. As the almighty, all powerful God, He never gets tired and He never gets sleepy. He is not just a morning person or an evening person or a night owl: God is a 24/7, 365 ¼ days per year, for eternity God (What an endless power dynamo Our God is!!) Remember Elijah?

And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked. (1 Kings 18:27)

Unlike the gods of the unbelievers, our God is always alert, always diligent and always protecting us. – Pastor Stevens
