Luke 23:34. And Jesus prayed, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”
It’s hard to imagine that our Lord would pray for others at a time when He was suffering the greatest trial of His human existence. But that’s what He did. He who knew the thoughts of man, understood that they had no idea what they were doing when they were crucifying Him. Instead of focusing on His own pain and suffering, He asks for His Father to forgive His tormentors. Jesus knew their eternal destiny was at stake and in pity cries out for their spiritual well being. Jesus always remained focused that He came to be the Savior of the world.
How many times has our loving Savior interceded for us because He knew we didn’t know what we were doing. Jesus told Peter that He prayed for him because Satan wanted to attack and deceive him. Peter thought he knew better, but he was clueless as to the working of Satan in his thoughts. It wasn’t long until Peter denied Jesus Christ three times and then wept bitterly when he realized what he had done.
Still today we have the assurance that Jesus prays and intercedes for us, His children. How many are the times that we have been under Satanic attack in our lives and not even realized it. When we are clueless, He is there at the right hand of the Father praying! What a comfort that should be to us as we go throughout our day.
Meditate on this today: ” Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.” ((Romans 8:33-34))
